Passing through the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City, I remembered the changes in the names of streets. For example, Scout Albano is now Eugenio Lopez Sr. Poor Scout Albano, his name was expunged in favor of a more powerful person. At least, Mother Ignacia St., named after the founder of the RVM congregation, who have a school along this street, just replaced the former Cebu street. That area has the Visayas provinces as street names, like Samar Ave, Panay Avenue. Bohol Avenue was also renamed to Sgt Esguerra St. I think he was the soldier who was killed while defending or liberating that news compound during the EDSA revolution.
I find it amusing that New York St in Cubao, which has been renamed to Pablo Reyes St, still carries New York as the main name. If you look at the street signs, it’s as if it’s saying New York St (presently Pablo Reyes St). I guess they lose the luster of an American address. Bad for business, right?
