I’m here in Leuven, Belgium, about 30 minutes from Brussels. It’s a small town, and very old, dating from before 800 AD. It is the site of one of the oldest universities in the world, the Catholic University of Leuven, as well as the birthplace of the world’s oldest and largest brewery, Inbev (where I’m doing some support work). There are many things to say about Leuven, but as your Manila bike correspondent, the first thing I have to say is that this is a bike commuting town. There are bike lanes, more bikes than cars, convenience stores that carry bike supplies, and of course, women on bikes!

Here are pictures from my first weekend, mostly of Belgian women on bikes, something highly improbable to see in Manila. It’s the peak of winter, and so people are still wrapped up (most fashionably, I must say).
